Masa Peterson
First Grade Teacher, Nystrom Elementary, Richmond, California
Masa Peterson teaches first grade at Nystrom Elementary, a Title I school in Richmond, California. Driven by the belief that literacy is a civil right, she combines her love of learning, teaching experience, and Williams College background in neuroscience to inform her classroom practice. She is passionate about bridging research and practice, and aims to create research-based, culturally responsive resources to support educators in closing literacy gaps. She dreams of a world where research and practice work more harmoniously, and where all students learn to read.
