Phonological Awareness
Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate units of sound in spoken language, such as words, syllables, onset-rime, and phonemes. It is a critical starting point for reading instruction, since students need to be able to hear and distinguish the individual sounds within words in order to match them to the written symbols of our alphabet accurately … both for reading and for writing.
