Phonics

Phonics teaches children how to connect speech sounds to letters, and it's an essential part of learning to read. The progression of phonics begins with students learning the names of the letters of the alphabet, then the sounds each of the letters spells. Children can then begin to build words based on a logical scope and sequence of spelling patterns in the English language. This sound-to-symbol link is the most fundamental skill of the reading process. All readers must be able to do it, and all skilled readers do it effortlessly.
