Assessment

Assessment allows educators to see what skills their students have mastered and guides what needs to happen next. As students move from pre-K through third grade, they need to steadily build reading skills both in word recognition and in their ability to understand what they read. Without regular assessment, children are at risk for developing gaps that could cause problems when they move from learning to read into reading to learn. Assessment also helps identify children who may need a different kind of instruction and helps teachers make adjustments along the way.
