Alan Brain is an award-winning editor and producer with extensive experience working across film, social media and television. Beginning his career as a video editor for most of Peru's top investigative journalism programs, his experience spans documentary filmmaking, episodic television, educational content, and multimedia production. His work has been featured at prestigious festivals including DOC NYC, the Sydney Film Festival, and the Brussels International Film Festival. In 2021, Alan Brain directed and edited the feature-length documentary The Rumba Kings, which celebrates Congo's musical heritage and its role in the country's fight for cultural identity and independence. The film received international acclaim, winning Best Music Documentary at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival and Best Documentary at the Pan-African Film Festival in Cannes. The film was selected by The Guardian as one of the best foreign films of 2021.
Prior to joining WETA Learning Media, Brain was the producer and editor of the American Sociological Association web series, "Sociological Insights," which features leading sociologists sharing expertise on pressing social issues from healthcare to immigration. His work has reached global audiences through collaborations with organizations such as Amnesty International and the United Nations, including his work with the UN Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he directed and edited documentaries focusing on human rights and cultural preservation. His multilingual proficiency in English, Spanish, and French has enabled him to work effectively with diverse international teams and audiences to create compelling narratives that resonate across cultural boundaries.
