Carla Burrell Stanford, M.Ed.
Director of Instructional Design, Reading Universe
Carla Burrell Stanford is the Director of Instructional Design at ReadingUniverse.org, where she translates the latest research on reading and writing into practical, classroom-ready tools teachers can use every day.
Like many educators, Carla discovered early in her career that she had never been taught how to teach a child to read. Once she gained that essential knowledge — and put it into practice — her teaching was transformed.
Determined to share what she had learned, Carla co-founded Reading Is Essential for All People (REAP), an organization that has trained more than 1,900 educators.
With over 30 years of experience in education, Carla now brings her expertise to ReadingUniverse.org, where she is dedicated to helping teachers understand not only what to teach, but why it matters and how to do it well — grounded in research and her own journey of learning and practice.
This mission is deeply personal to her — and always will be.
