Monique Ealey: I am going to use the roller coaster strategy to break a word into onset and rime. In a word, the onset is the first part of the word that comes before the vowel, and the rime is the vowel sound and everything after. Watch as I segment night into onset and rime ... /n/, /ight/ ... /n/, /ight/. The onset is /n/, the rime is /ight/. The word is night.
