Practice and Learn

For this learning activity, you will practice a word play game of your choice. If possible, find a partner who is willing to play along and learn with you! 

To play, download or print the Phoneme Awareness Word Play Games for a list of warm-up and practice activities. 

Instructions: 

1. Pick one of the word play games to play.
2. Ask a partner to practice word play with you. You will take the role of teacher, and your partner will take the role of student. (If you don't have a partner, play around with both roles; and be sure to practice the word play aloud, just as you would in real life with a student.) Each game includes sample scripts for you to practice with.
3. After playing the game, get feedback from your partner. Ask questions like: Were the instructions for the game easy to understand? What did you learn about phonemes from the game? What did you enjoy about the game? What did you not enjoy? What advice do you have for me about things I should do or not do to help students participate and learn effectively through the game?
