Decodable — Clams at the Pond

Use this decodable text to give students practice reading closed-syllable words with beginning and ending blends like clams, crabs, pond, and pinch.

Skilled readers will learn to recognize beginning and ending blends as two or three consecutive letters that come before or after a vowel. Although the graphemes in the blend represent their own sounds, students will blend and read the sounds as one unit. For example, the beginning blend 'cl-' in the word clam represents the sounds of both 'c' and 'l', but we blend the two letter sounds together.
