Krista Reilly: Eyes on the board, we're going to go through our hand motions talking about our root words. Our what?
Students: Root words.
Krista Reilly: Excellent job. So we'll do the prompt for the word. We'll do your hand motion and then I'll ask you what the word means. Okay? So we'll do that all together. You ready? What word?
Students: '-rupt'. [students clap hands together] To break or burst.
Krista Reilly: Good. Excellent. We got our picture and ...
Students: '-tract.' [students pull their hands in toward their chests] To pull.
Krista Reilly: Great. Who can give me a word with '-tract'? How about you, Shiloh?
Shiloh: Attraction.
Krista Reilly: "Attraction" works. Very good. Where might we use that word attraction?
Shiloh: In science, like if you're talking about magnets.
Krista Reilly: Excellent job. In science when we're talking about magnets. Now let's go back with '-shun'. Who can tell me what happens when we add '-shun' at the end of a word? Marlin.
Marlin: It makes it a noun.
Krista Reilly: Great job. When you add '-shun' to the end of a word, it changes its part of speech to a noun. Good job. Who agrees with that? [students wave their hands in the air] Yes, yes, yes.
