6. Student Practice Activities for Sentence Expansion

Students in the primary grades need repeated practice with expanding sentences to further develop their syntactic awareness, or "sentence sense." We've included free printable student practice activities below and additional resources in the Resource Hub. Please download and share them with your colleagues! 

Keep an eye out for students who may need you to step in and scaffold.

These activities are best used during the "We Do" part of the lesson, with the teacher’s guidance.

Before your students begin this activity, make sure that they understand how to complete it. You can model in a whole-group setting or in a small group. Then students can do this activity on their own.
