Understanding vowel placement and spelling patterns is fundamental to developing strong literacy skills. English vowels present a unique challenge because they can appear in multiple positions within words and can be represented by various letter combinations depending on where they occur. This chart provides a systematic overview of where vowel sounds can be positioned in words (beginning, middle, and end) and the different ways these sounds are commonly spelled in each location.
